SUMMER '21 COURSE: FRENCH 10 "A LA RECHERCHE DU BONHEUR"

What is happiness?  How has this concept changed over the centuries?  How has its conception and treatment been influenced by historical events, gender, and class?  Is there a form of happiness that is particularly French?

In this course we will explore these questions among others as we study the different ways happiness has been conceived and the roles that the concept of  happiness has played in French culture.  Analyzing texts from a variety of genres, we will examine how language is used to understand happiness, to transmit it, and also to create this emotion that is so essential, but is often at the same time illusory or ephemeral.

This course will be held during J Period for Summer 2021.
