How to Apply
To apply applicants must submit:
- a proposal (500 words) for French 78, 87 or 89, or Italian 88 or 89 and provide a detailed rationale explaining why this research is necessary for the project;
- one letter of recommendation from the advisor of the project; and
- a list of all courses taken in French and Italian, as well as any courses directly relevant to the project, with the grade received.
In addition, the applicant must include a description of the research trip with a budget and time table for completing the research, and a list of alternative sources of funding applied for in addition to this grant. Upon returning, students must provide a summary of their research in written form to the department. This award will be bestowed biannually, in October and May. Please submit your application by 4 pm on October 20 for funding for December research; submit by 4 pm on April 20 for funding for summer research.
Students are invited to submit proposals for the endowment to Andrea Tarnowski, chair of French and Italian.
