A distinguished teacher-scholar, she created challenging courses in the field of French thought and wrote, among other critical works, a seminal study on Bachelard: "On Poetic Imagination and Reverie:  Selections from the Works of Gaston Bachelard". She was the first woman to receive tenure in Romance Languages and went on to serve as Chair of the French and Italian Department from 1979-1982.  In 1986, she was awarded the Palmes Académiques by the French government in recognition of her accomplishments in the field of French education.
